Interfacing a Load Cell with ESP32

The PCB Artists ESP32 Gateway and Industrial Controller allows interfacing a load cell with ESP32 via its high accuracy load cell front end. The load cell front end is capable of reading a very low voltage, low impedance differential signal. The load cell output voltage (or output voltage from any similar unbalanced bridge circuit) is connected via the BRIDGE (+) and BRIDGE (-) terminals of the ESP32 gateway.

The differential voltage input is doubled by the ESP32 gateway load cell front end and then amplified by a factor of 1, 2, 4, or 8 (user programmable). This output is then read using an 18-bit ADC block (or lower resolution for faster conversion).

Connecting the Load Cell to ESP32 Gateway

Any load cell can be connected directly with the ESP32 gateway and controller. The controller has dedicated inputs for bridge type load cells and pressure sensors.

Some Compatible Load Cells - Examples

You can use almost any load cell with the ESP32 gateway and controller. However, you must ensure that the load cell is a raw load cell and does not contain internal amplifier or interfacing circuits. Some load cells output 0-10V or 4-20mA outputs too. They are not compatible with the Sensor Bridge Interface.

Here is a list of raw load cells that do not contain any amplifier inside.
